There's mudslinging.

There's trash talking.

There are debates.


And then...

... sometimes ...

...an October Surprise!

What is it?


It's clearly a well designed ploy by the opposition to knock one party off balance.

The surprise element is what does it.

• A surprise ---- you don't see coming.
• A surprise ---- you don't have a plan of defense.

In politics it's called the October Surprise because it usually comes during the 30 days before the November election.

In life you can have an October Surprise every month.


For instance, this past week, Monday to be exact - 3 days ago...

I was working in my office and I heard a clang, clang, clang coming from the kitchen.


My wife came to my door and said, "You won't believe what just happened."

I said, "What did you break now?

[You see, on Sunday she had accidentally broken a glass bowl full of peas]

I followed her to the kitchen, looked around, and ...

there it was ...

the October Surprise [I'm writing this on October 25!]

The handle to the kitchen faucet had broken off!

Can you imagine?

We were fortunate and there were no leaks.

But, man...

I could never have thought this would happen.
