Problems With The Voice - PT 2

Problems with The Voice – PT2

I really enjoyed last year's musical show called The Voice.  Christina, Blake, Cee Lo, and Adam all did a great job in finding and selecting great new artists.  This blog is not about the show.  It's about me!  Adversity, pain, struggle, heartache - sometimes you can find hope through someone else's story.
As an inspirational blogger I want to share a personal story about the struggle I’ve had with The Voice – the only voice that I have.  So, if you have a dilemma or situation that you are going through please find some encouragement through my journey. I had the surgery.  I was on total voice rest for a week following that.  I had to write notes on paper, a white board or a Magna Doodle to communicate with my wife or children.  I also had to elevate the head of my bed to ease the chance of reflux happening while I slept.  That was 2002.

After a few weeks of being able to talk but not sing I was able to get my voice totally back.  It was great.  I was able to sing the high notes like before.  I was even able to sing falsetto like before.  It was great.
But I noticed about the time that my dad passed away in 2007 that I was back in the same situation of losing my voice. In 2008 I even went to another ENT, had a scope, and he didn’t see anything on the vocal cords.  He let me go on voice rest for a week or so and it seemed to help.

But by 2010 it was so bad that I thought I had cancer or a tumor or some dreadful disease.  I thought my blood pressure medicine was doing it.  I blamed it on a lot of things.

It got so bad that I didn’t even want to talk to people because I sounded so back. It didn’t hurt, it just sounded terrible.  These led to a quasi-depression.  Depressed that I couldn’t sing properly, or just a few notes.  Depressed that I didn’t have good insurance and wasn’t sure how I could even try to have surgery if I needed it. I finally gave up.

I went to my original ENT. I had another scope.  He told me I had granulomas.  It wasn’t a nodule as before, but the result of scar tissue building up from the prior surgery.  Surgery was scheduled for the first week of 2011.  God provided $1000.00 from one individual and $10,000.00 from another.  That was totally unexpected and took care of the hospital and doctor.  Praise God.

Flash forward.  Today I can sing great.  I can talk with clarity without sounding hoarse. However, my ENT said that most likely I’ll have the same situation arise in a few years.  I hope not.  With God's help it won't return.

How about you?

Are you having Problems With The Voice?  Your Voice?

Your Life?  Your Job?  Your Marriage?

Don't give up.  Seek God and look for help.
