Keep Growing
My four month old granddaughter turned over yesterday. My son even got it recorded on his I-phone and sent it to me in a text. Wow. When he was four months old my wife and I moved him to North Carolina to make a new start. Back then you could record video with 8 or 16 mm, but we could never afford to purchase one. And if you did make home movies you probably had to take it down to Fox Photo or some other place and have the film processed so you could show it on your home reel projector. What a procedure!
Technology has moved ahead. There is NO Fox Photo kiosk in the parking lot of Safeway. You no longer have to mail in your 35 mm Kodak film in the mail envelope for 4X6 prints. You can have your photos printed online and pick them up at Walmart or Walgreens.
I remember my friend, Rick, who had the first portable “bag” phone that I had ever seen. Oh, and it was expensive. I believe over $1,000.00 back in the 80’s. And they were huge phones! Present day 4G phones are amazing and are like mini computers with built in calculators, still cameras, video camera, data storage, rolodex, and so much more. My I-phone 4s can surf the web, play music, store books, magazines, newspapers, and has replaced my watch! So much has changed.
But what if our technology didn’t keep growing?
What if we were still playing Sony Beta videos? VHS won that war, but now they are basically gone, except at my house. We’ve got a lot of Disney VHS that we play for our grandkids! But most of the world has made the move to DVD and BluRay! Technology has kept moving and improving. We call that evolving or growing.
How can you Keep Growing?
We know that in the plant and animal world that if there is no growth there will eventually come death. That is the end result of flowers, seeds, or cows or monkeys. If they don’t grow as their DNA was designed they will die. They will not live the life they were destined to live. It’s the same with humans. We have got to Keep Growing.
I love my 4 month old granddaughter. She eats, cries and poops! She is so cute and adorable. She doesn’t know if I’m fat, bald or ugly. She doesn’t care if I’m short or tall or have lots of money [she will later when she’s 16!]
But I don’t want her to stay at 14 pounds and in diapers. I want her to know what I have experienced in my years on this earth and that is growth. The stages of growth include starting as a baby and progressing to toddler, preK, preteen, teenager, young adult, middle age and senior adult. These are normal growth patterns.
We also need to Keep Growing in other ways – Spiritually, Intellectually, Emotionally, in our Relationships and in our Finances.
If we don’t we’ll remain a “baby” in whatever area we choose not to grow in.
How can we insure growth? How can we Keep Growing?
Here are a few suggestions. Try to incorporate one or two into your life, your business, your home this week.
- Be a Reader. Read inspiring books that will help you grow in whatever area you are targeting. You want to be a leader? Read John Maxwell. You want to be debt free? Read Dave Ramsey. You want to become more positive? Read Zig Ziglar or Tony Robbins. And if you can’t read there are always audio books. You don’t even have to buy most of the books. Go to your local public library and started reading.
- Be a Follower. Follow others who have become successful. If they have a training seminar make plans to attend. Do what they are doing.
- Be a Learner or a Student. You don’t have to go to college to learn. You can learn every day. But college courses are available on any topic under the son. You want to work on air conditioners? You want to be an accountant? You want to be a chef? There are classes, even free classes, all around your community. Churches, schools, libraries, Chamber of Commerce and others offer classes for the community.
- Be a Teacher. I have heard it said “You remember what you teach.” Once you start making some progress in your life share that with others. Become a mentor to someone else and help them to keep growing.
