Who is this blog author?
If you don’t know me I’m an Associate Pastor of a church. Sometimes the ministry can be very busy, very trying, but very rewarding.
Take this week for example.
A couple in our church lost their son in an accident. Saturday I spent several hours with the dad
because I didn’t want him to be alone. I didn’t have to. I wasn’t told to. I wanted to.
Then we had worship on Sunday, which for me I leave the
house at about 7:00 am and
don’t leave the church campus until about noon.
Then out to lunch with family and friends. Then my wife and I went to the funeral home
for the visitation with the family. It was a great, but long day.
As I write this you may think I’m complaining. I’m not.
I’m explaining. Sometimes people,
including me, say the old adage that preachers only work one day of the week
[Sunday]. Oh, I do think that is a funny
one-liner!
Monday the funeral and lunch with the family took most of my
work day. Guess what? Our church is hosting 2 more funerals this
week. It hardly ever happens this way,
but this week we have three. So, I’ve
got to run sound for a service tomorrow, plus try and get all my regular work
done before I audition a vocalist for the worship team and lead worship for our
mid-week Bible study.
Today I was the only one in the office due to others being
at meetings, taking care of sick children, or other things. Then I spent a lot
of my time preparing for our Celebrate
Recovery group that meets on Tuesday nights. I help play music.
Oh, and on top of all this, the staff already had a national
seminar we planned on attending for Thursday and Friday! Phew! So, I am looking
forward to a little rest on Saturday!
So, what’s the point, Chuck Whetstone?
No matter what I do on any given day I must realize that the people are what’s important!
There is a saying we use around our church – Changed Lives
Change Lives! So our goal is to love
people where they are and see them get changed and transformed by the love,
grace and mercy of God. Sometimes it
takes place during one of the busiest weeks of the year [which I thought was
Christmas or Easter!]
That’s our purpose – Changing Lives – One Day at A Time!
That’s why I call my blog – Blogging to Change Lives.
