Foundation . . . What You Build On
As I write this blog I’m in Memphis, TN visiting with my Mom
and family. Downtown there is the huge
Pyramid. I was thinking about it and the
original pyramids of Egypt.
The pyramids in Egypt and other places around the world are
massive structures. Huge rocks were
apparently quarried, moved and set in place to build these wonderful buildings.
Pyramids have a large base and each topping layer is a bit
smaller. It continues skyward until
there is a peak.
Every large skyscraper has one thing in common. They all are built on solid foundations.
And they say that the taller the building the deeper the
base needs to be.
It’s really important to build our lives on a good, strong
foundation.
Today our pastor shared on The Journey to Wholeness. He talked about the 5 areas of health we all
need.
1.
Spiritual Health
2.
Physical Health
3.
Emotional Health
4.
Mental Health
5.
Relational Health
Think of these 5 areas of Health layers of a pyramid, but
each layer is just as important as the other.
This pyramid of our life has to have strong foundations.
Spiritually we need to bring ourselves in complete honesty
to God. As the song by Scott Underwood says,
Take my heart and form it; Take my mind, transform it; Take my will, conform it; To yours, to yours, O Lord. Take My Life (Holiness) by Scott Underwood. All rights reserved.
Physically we need to learn moderation and balance. Richard
Simmons, the exercise guru and celebrity, was asked how much should we
exercise? He said, “If you eat everyday,
you should exercise everyday.”
Emotionally, mentally, and relationally we all have things
in our past that may haunt us. These may
be things that happened to us that weren’t our fault at all. But somehow through time we may blame
ourselves.
For deep-seated problems we need to seek professional
counseling. There is no shame in asking
for help.
There is a wonderful Christian 12 Step program that helps
individuals with hurts, habits and hangups.
It is called Celebrate Recovery.
You can find CR meetings almost everyday of the week.

Foundation building.
It doesn’t happen overnite. It may take time.
Please be willing to invest time and effort in order to
build a foundation that can stand the test of time.
Jesus talked about the wise man. He said that he built his house on the rock.
He also talked about the foolish person who built his house on the sand.
A structure on loose sand will give way under the forces of
the elements such as rain, wind, and floods.
But a building based on the foundation of stability, like a
rock, can withstand the forces of nature.
And so it is with our very lives. We are complex beings made up of body, soul
and spirit.
If we “build” foolishly then we may find ourselves in the storms
of life unable to stand against the pressures that life itself can bring.
If we “build” wisely on the principles of good, clean
living, we have a better chance of weathering whatever life brings to us.
And so it is very important that we consider our Foundation– what you build on!

WOW! Love to read your blogs....so creative. Celebrate Recovery is for everyone. We receive FREEDOM from our Hurts, Hang-ups and Habits by learning we are powerless without JESUS!
ReplyDeleteThe start of this blog got me thinking about the food pyramid. The way that works...some things you are allowed to have more of than others. I believe this is the same with the pyramid you speak of...some aspects of our lives need to be developed and "consumed" more than others...God's Word for instance. Got me to thinking...
