Foundation . . . The Groove
Today I am in Memphis, TN, which is the home of the Blues.
It is also a famous city because Elvis Presley lived here at Graceland while he
was making music.
It is also home to Sun Records where many legendary artists
got there start. Sam Phillips was the
right man at the right time and privileged to record hits for Elvis, Johnny
Cash, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins, to name a few.
On Beale Street you’ll also find the Memphis Rock n’ Soul
Museum. It is a great place to tour,
listen and learn about the history of the blues and soul.
Memphis is also home to Stax Records where the famous
Memphis Horns played, along with Steve Cropper and David Porter. A lot of great music has been cut there.
Some of the hitmakers included Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas,
Booker T and the MGs, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Albert King, Isaac Hayes,
The Staple Singers, and Luther Ingram.
Good rock, soul, and rhythm & blues music has a
foundation. We call it the groove.
Everything happens because of groove. The vocals can soar. The solos can go in and out. When the groove is there you can relax and enjoy the ride.
Most bands have what is called the rhythm section. It can be made up of a variety of
instruments. You’ll always hear drums,
bass guitar, followed by piano or rhythm guitar. That group of musicians is
usually adequate to form a tight groove.
You can add to that group, embellish it with percussion,
brass, strings, woodwinds, and lead guitar and vocals, but you start with the
Core Foundation.
Our church worship band plays along with a metronome that
the drummer sets for us. The metronome
can be heard by every player in their ear monitors. Do you know what? When we are in the groove the metronome
disappears from my hearing and we are all playing in sync. It is wonderful.

When the foundation is right everything works together better.
In your love life you need a good foundation. Don’t start building a relationship with
someone based on partial truths (those are really lies). Be upfront with the other person. Be truthful about your past and your present.
In your business you need to start with a good plan of
action. Who do you want to reach with
your business? What are you willing to
do (legally, morally, ethically) to get the results you are seeking?
In your finances your foundation can be your planned savings
and monthly budget. How can you build up
your finances if you don’t know what you have in the bank?
In your spiritual life you need a foundation. For Christians our belief in Jesus is that
foundation. To strengthen that
foundation many suggest that we need to pray daily, read the Bible, attend a
local church, give 10% of our resources, and tell others about Jesus.
Celebrate Recovery is a 12 step Christian program for
everyone who has a hurt, habit or hangup.
They teach the Eight Recovery Principles based upon the words of Jesus
found in the Beatitudes. These are the
foundation to recovery.
Empower Network teaches each affiliate to do the 8 Core
Commitments. These are the foundation to
what we do to have a successful business. These are to be reviewed and followed
every day. That’s the foundation. That’s the groove.
Are you looking for a business that you can build in less
than 2 hours a day?
Can you follow directions?
Do you need a strong “rhythm section” to keep you grounded? We have a group of 40,000 like-minded people
to show you it can be done.
